Making Memories Slice Butterfly Card

I made this card a few weeks ago, but was stuck on how to finish the card.

Then I bought these stamps, and I instantly knew and came back to this card.
I cut the butterfly using my Making Memeories slice and the Vintage Findings design card. I started by cutting the aperture using the shadow function, the cut the same butterfly on normal in pink glitter card.

The swirls are stamped in gold metallic ink using Kanban Stamps and added a few gems.

A couple of Doilies

These Doilies were easy and quick to make and cut using Nellie Snellen Dies.
Both measure approximately 3"

I didnt really have any ideas when I started. So I started by picking a small piece of glittered paper for one and worked off that, adding bits from my craft cupboard as I went along.

The flower originally started off yellow, but them I added watercolour pens to the edges and blended the ink with my water pen. The little centre flower is a chipboard flower that I coated with rock candy crackel paint then rubbed faded jeans distress re-inker into the top.

The second doily was distressed using Tattered Rose distress ink and a folded Dahlia flower was added.
The flower was made by folding 8 1" circles, then adhering them to the centre of another circle to hold them in place. I glittered the edge of the finished flower with stickles to give some sparkle.

60th Birthday Rolled Rose Cake

My First ever fancy cake.
This cake I made as a Suprise for my Mum. It was brought out during a meal at a restaurant, and my Mum had asbolutely no idea! Despite smuggling it into the restaurant in front of her and talking to the staff about it for a while!

This cake was quite a challenge for me because I had originally hoped to buy a ready made, ready iced cake and just decorate it, but at £15 for a 6" cake, I just could comprehand spending that amount of money. So I bought the ingredients (and extra!) and made my own.

The flowers on the top were very very easy to make. I bought some specialist flower making icing, rolled it out very thin and treated it just like paper. I even wondered if I could cut the icing using my Making Memories slice? If I had more time, I would probably have tried it!
I cut circles using cookie cutters then used a knife to cut spirals. Rolled the up, and left them to dry for 24hours. I cut a leaf template, made veins with a kebab skewer and bent them.

I had lots of lovely comments about my cake, some even suprised I had made the cake myself, let alone the flowers!
As well that this cake turned out, I do not think cake making/decorating will become a new hobby/career anytime soon.

60th Birthday Card

This Napkin Fold card I made for my Mum's 60th Birthday.

I die cut the circle using Nellie Snellen circle dies and distressed it with Walnut Stain distress ink.
The flourish and word on the front were cut using my Making Memeories Slice. The floursish is cut from the Remember This design card, and the MUM was cut using the shadow feature at 1" from the Vintage Findings design card.

The greeting inside the card was cut using my Making Memories slice and the Words and Expressions Holidays designs card and the border is a Martha Stewart Bubbles around the page set.

The pink flower cardstock, (unfortunately I do not know the brand), was bought from Carols Crafts, and sprayed with Crafters Companion irridescent spray.
The green and pink paper came from a scrapbooking stack the I picked up in sale from TKMaxx. Again, I do not know the brand, the stack had lost its cover.

Doily Swap?

I love paper doilies. They are so intricate and feminine. Whilst Googling around for some small doilies in the UK, I stumbled across this site: Retrospection which instantly rolled loads and loads of inspiration into my head. Christine has an amazing tutorial on creating some stunning doily embellishments.

I dont know about you, but sometimes I get a little tired of card making and want to expand into making other items, but small items that can be used for something else. And as a means to use up some of my stash!

ATC's are fab way to use up stash, but I found they became a bit samey, and basically minature cards.
Then I had a brainwave of a paper doily swap!
Does anyone already do this? Or would anyone be interested? Let me know what you think!

Taking a break

Sorry I havnt posted anything for quite a few weeks. I decided to take a complete break from card making/crafting over the summer holidays. With my 3 boys at home all day and going away, I knew I wouldnt get much done.
I've actually found the break quite refreshing! I have made a couple of things as the need has arisen, (a napkin fold 60th card and a birthday cake) both of which I will add to my blog as soon as I can. (I know I keep saying this, but I will do it!)

Taking a break has also helped me to look at my card making in a different light.
